Ricchizzi
Gianni Ricchizzi is born in Barletta, has achieved the diploma of Master of Sitar and Musica Indiana, at the famous Benares Hindu University, under the guide of illustrious Masters like Raj Bhan Singh and Amarnath Mishra for the Sitar, Gopal Krishnan for Vina and Ritwik Sanyal for the Dhrupad style.
From the Benares Hindù University he was rewarded the higher voting at the examinations of the session 84-85 of all candidates to the Master Diploma, and has received the title it of "YOUNG LIGHT Of MUSIC" from the Sivananda Ashram in Rishikesh.
Moreover he has learned the bases and the techniques necessary in order to play other old Indian string instruments to Indian, f.e. the Surbahar, the Vicitra and Rudra Vina, the Santoor, the Tampura, the Indian Guitar.
Currently he lives in Assisi where he has given life to the only Center of
Indian Music in Italy "SARASWATI HOUSE", (in devotion to the goddess Saraswati), where he organizes concerts and seminaries, inviting also
eminent Indian musicians.
Some of the more meaningful stages of its musical activity have been:
- the first concert in India in the 1981 organized from the Cultural
institute of the Italian Embassy in New Delhi, followed by others in 1983,
1984 in Benares, Rishikesh, and other places. Particularly important is his participation in 1996 at the Festival of the Dhrupad in Benares.
- Concerts at the Indian Embassy in Rome where he has been invited several times.
- Concerts in Germany, France and Switzerland at important international festival where he was the only European representative of Indian music among which the most notable one was the Festival "Parampara" in Berlin in 1994.
- Concerts in Theatres, cultural Associations, Yoga Centers, Churches,
Schools in many Italian cities.
- The first CD, recorded in 1995 for the English label Nimbus Records, the only CD recorded from a "none Indian" for the series Master of Indian Music.
The second CD recorded for the German label Internal Music (with the Vicitra Vina) followed by a Third on the Rudra Vina.
- In collaboration with Maestro Mannino he played for it's "Sinfonia of the Oceans", in which the sitar has been combined with the other elements of the traditional sinfonica orchestra. This was followed by the most recent project "Prayer for the life" with the composers Toffolon and Cavallin.
Collaboration with some of the most famous musicians and Indian dancers during their tour in Italy: Ravi Shankar, Lacchu Marahaj, Arjun Mishra, B.
Chattopadyaya, Mangala Tivari, Ritwik Sanyal, Srikant Mishra, Kala Ramnath and others. -
Beside teaching at his own school he conducts a course of sitar at
university level at the conservatory of Vicenza, Italy.
